STEP Motorsport enters Radical Cup Scandinavia in 2025

26. July 2024

The Danish talent team is giving their Radical SR3 its Danish race debut at Grand Prix Denmark on FDM Jyllandsringen, with Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen behind the wheel.

The expansion of the team, which currently leads in the driver, rookie, and team championships in Nordic 4, is a natural part of the vision to help Danish motorsport talents transition from karting to international motorsport. -We have participated in Nordic 4 with great success for the past three years, and we have long been looking for a natural next step for the team. Radical Cup Scandinavia meets all the criteria we have; a thoroughbred race car, professional exposure, an international perspective, and not least, an economically manageable package, says team manager Morten Dons, who already has the team’s first race planned. At this year’s Grand Prix Denmark on FDM Jyllandsringen, STEP Motorsport will start in the Special Saloon Car class with the championship leader in Nordic 4, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen, behind the wheel. -There’s no better place to showcase a new product than at the year’s biggest race weekend. Our ambition for the race is to demonstrate that a Radical is a really good step up from, for example, Nordic 4, especially if one does not necessarily want to race Formula 4 abroad, explains Morten Dons.

Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen is also looking forward to testing the waters with the British sports car: -It will be a fun experience to try the car and compete against some of the powerful GT cars and prototypes racing in Special Saloon Car. I believe that with its low weight, it will perform well against many of the other cars—but I’ve promised the team to take good care of the car, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen laughs. STEP Motorsport plans to field two Radical SR3s in Radical Cup Scandinavia next season and will remain active in the Danish Nordic 4 championship, expecting to line up four cars again.
