Butterflies before Radical debut

13. August 2024

Both the team manager and the race driver at STEP Motorsport are especially excited for this year’s Grand Prix Denmark, where the team’s Radical SR3 will make its racing debut in collaboration with OK Oktan100.

After announcing plans to enter the Radical Cup Scandinavia in 2025, the team manager has received numerous inquiries of interest. Therefore, Morten Dons is particularly looking forward to getting the car on the track this weekend: -We have received more responses to the announcement than I expected, which has only reinforced my belief that this is the perfect supplement to our Nordic 4 team. Our debut race this weekend will take place among many exciting sports cars and GT racers in Special Saloon Car, where we aim to show that a Radical is a fantastic race car – and I’m looking forward to that, says Morten Dons, who can anticipate that STEP Motorsport’s championship-leading Nordic 4 driver, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen, will be competing with the British sports car. The 17-year-old racer is actively planning the next step in his motorsport career, and the opportunity to test drive the Radical racer is both a recognition of his impressive performance and a great chance to experience the car in action:

-I feel ready for the next step in my career, and it’s no secret that I find both the car, the championship, and the opportunity to continue working with STEP exciting. After my test in LMP3 last fall, I have no doubt that I want to move towards endurance racing and ideally in prototypes, so a Radical could be a good step in that direction for me, says Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen, who, however, takes it one step at a time: -Now we just need to get to know the car before the weekend, and I hope that the team and I can showcase it well at the Grand Prix. It’s a bit of a mixed group of cars and drivers, so I have no other expectations than to get out there, give it my all, and see what it brings, says Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen. Sunday’s two races in Special Saloon Car will be streamed live on YouTube.
