Dream debut for STEP and Radical SR3

19. August 2024

Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen showcased STEP Motorsport’s new Radical SR3 in the best way at this year’s Grand Prix Denmark at FDM Jyllandsringen.

As one of 25 exciting and powerful race cars in the Special Saloon Car class, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen proved that a Radical SR3 is not only fast—it can outperform much faster cars on paper. Over the weekend’s three races, he secured two podium finishes ahead of cars from Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Ferrari Challenge, and Porsche Carrera Cup, and each time, the Copenhagen driver stepped out of the car with a big grin under his helmet: -This is truly a fun car to drive. It does exactly what you want it to do, and it’s just incredibly fast. Playing with Lamborghinis in a car that has less than half their horsepower is really exciting. I think it could be a lot of fun in a field with similar cars, which is what it’s designed for, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen shared about his experiences over the weekend, which was also referred to as David’s battle against Goliath.

As hoped, there was also plenty of interest and curious racing drivers visiting the STEP Motorsport tent throughout the weekend. This has only confirmed the belief that participating in the Radical Cup Scandinavia in 2025 is the right decision, says team manager Morten Dons: -We’ve had a lot of people stop by, and everyone has been impressed with how well-built, fast, and budget-friendly the car and the championship are. Normally, you quickly encounter critical voices, but I’ve only heard positive feedback, says Morten Dons, who is optimistic about finding two drivers for the upcoming season. -I’m confident that we will be ready with two cars when the 2025 season starts. We’re already in talks with interested drivers, and I definitely believe that more will join. I hope we can finalize names for the seats in the next 3-4 months, so we can use the winter to properly prepare for the season.
