New territory awaits STEP Motorsport

28. June 2021

There will be no resting on laurels in STEP Motorsport’s debut season in the Danish Endurance Championship (DEC). The third race weekend on three different tracks in just six weeks is ahead. This time, it’s FDM Jyllandsringen that will host the event—and it’s new for Silas Rytter:

-I have never driven a lap on this track, so it will be quite a challenge! This week will be spent watching videos on YouTube, looking at track maps, and talking to Morten (Dons, ed.) about the corners, as he has been around the track several times. It will definitely be tough to find the pace in such a short time, but I believe it can be done, says Silas Rytter.

The small Ginetta G40 GT5 racer is designed to perform well in corners, and with Jyllandsringen’s track layout, this could be a significant advantage for Silas Rytter, who defied the pessimistic odds at Padborg Park and secured his and the team’s first podium placement. However, he doesn’t dare to predict if more trophies are on the way:

-Well, if I can find my way around the track, we actually have better opportunities on paper than at Padborg Park because the straights are relatively short. I wouldn’t say no to a trophy or two, but my focus is primarily on getting to know the track first.

For team manager Morten Dons, the primary focus is on ensuring constant development throughout the weekend. On an untested track with only two qualifying sessions to learn the layout and set a good lap time, there is much for the team’s young driver to handle:

-This weekend, Silas will have the opportunity to practice the art of quickly finding pace on an unknown racetrack. In the future, he will encounter situations where he cannot practice the track before a race, and it’s crucial to learn the track quickly and become competitive. That will be Silas’ task this weekend, and I am confident he will do well, says Morten Dons.

The races will be streamed live on Super GT Danmarks Youtube-kanal.
