STEP Motorsport plans Formula 4 debut in 2022

15. October 2021

Young racing talents looking to take the next step in motorsport through Formula 4 can do so in 2022 with STEP Motorsport.

After a successful and educational debut season in the Danish Endurance Championship (DEC), where the team, with Silas Rytter behind the wheel of the small Ginetta G40 GT5, secured two podium finishes against seemingly faster competitors, team owner Morten Dons expects to strengthen the effort with two formula cars in the upcoming season.

-Formula cars have always been a fantastic tool for developing a young racing driver, and the Formula 4 car provides great learning opportunities while the technology remains at a reasonable level, says Dons, who looks forward to becoming part of the growing Danish Formula 4 field.

-There are hardly many who haven’t noticed how Formula 4 has transformed from a small to a quite impressive field over the course of the season. With the number of participants and the effort from the promoter’s side, I have no doubt that there is a foundation for an exciting 2022 season.

STEP Motorsport’s F4 effort will offer coaching, driver development, and learning about everything a racing driver needs to know.

The initiative in Formula 4 will be based on the same concept as this year’s DEC effort. The focus is and will continue to be on learning rather than trophies, insists Morten Dons:

-Winning is great, and of course, we want that too, but the primary focus is on learning and developing the racing driver. We set a specific goal for each driver before the season starts, and then we pursue that. There is so much more to learn than just holding the steering wheel before a young driver is ready for the international classes.

As part of the season, drivers will be affiliated with STEP Sports Management and participate in a series of training camps where affiliated athletes are prepared to navigate the international motorsport scene. Topics such as media training, sponsorship work, and technical understanding are on the agenda—all crucial for reaching the top in a challenging sport.

STEP was involved in Malthe Jakobsen’s DM title in 2019.

STEP Motorsport continues its efforts in the Danish Endurance Championship focused on young drivers who wish to prepare for a foray into international endurance racing.
