STEP Motorsport poised to secure triple Formula championship at Jyllandsringen

23. September 2024

The West Jutland team focused on talent development eyes three championships in Nordic 4 as the Danish championship final takes place at FDM Jyllandsringen this weekend.

After an exhilarating season with talented young drivers behind the wheel of the team’s formula cars, several of STEP Motorsport’s drivers are in strong positions to claim championship titles. While the primary goal for STEP Motorsport is driver development, trophies and titles also serve as proof of the team’s successful progress.

And progress has indeed been made. Following a challenging start to the season, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen has positioned himself to secure the Danish Motorsports Championship in Nordic 4. The 17-year-old from Copenhagen has achieved maximum points in half of the six events held so far, and a solid result in the first heat of the weekend could clinch the championship for him.

Sebastian Bach has also laid a strong foundation to finish his debut season in formula cars as the holder of the Rookie title. The driver from Aalborg has demonstrated strong single-lap speed since the start of the season, and as he’s gained experience and racecraft, he has consistently earned crucial points. He firmly asserted himself among the front-runners during the Night Race two weeks ago.

Furthermore, the solid efforts from all drivers throughout the season have put STEP Motorsport on a steady course toward the team championship.

While Mathias and Sebastian have clear individual goals for the final weekend, Lærke Rønn Sørensen is going all-in to continue her upward trajectory, especially after the Night Race, where she once again displayed her high potential behind the wheel. For Gustaw Wisniewski, the focus is on securing more top finishes and gaining experience that will help him advance in European formula classes.

Sebastian Schou is back with STEP Motorsport after spending most of the season off the track. The talented driver from Silkeborg will be racing at his home track for the first time, and his primary focus is to gain valuable experience before the winter break begins.

With so much at stake, preparations have been in full swing at STEP Motorsport’s workshop. The team is determined to prevent any technical issues from hindering the championship chase:

-It’s essentially just routine service between races, but of course, everyone is a little extra attentive and cautious now with so much on the line. Our focus remains as always—to ensure the cars are in top condition so all drivers have the best chance to perform at their best. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope we’ll have three championships to celebrate on Sunday afternoon, says Morten Dons, adding:

-My greatest hope is that Lærke and Gustaw both get another chance to showcase their skills on the track, and we also have Sebastian Schou back with the team for the final race. He’s worked hard all year to find sponsors and create the foundation to race more, so we’re all looking forward to seeing him back in the car.

All three races of the final weekend take place on Sunday and will be broadcast live on the Youtube-kanalen Dansk Motorsport Live.
