The young talents dominated the top positions at the fifth round of Nordic 4 at Falkenberg Motorbana.
Excitement was high as the four STEP drivers hit the Swedish racetrack for the very first time on Friday. With no prior opportunity to practice on the track, they had just twenty minutes to learn and master it before qualifying. However, the groundwork had been laid, and STEP topped the results list, with Gustaw Wisniewski 0.022 seconds ahead of Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen, who had another 0.028 seconds of advantage over Sebastian Bach. The entire field was tightly packed, leaving no room to relax and enjoy the good results.
This was especially true since the first race of the weekend was held on a wet track. Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen got off to a strong start and took the lead, which he maintained until the checkered flag. Meanwhile, both Gustaw Wisniewski and Sebastian Bach lost positions and had to fight their way back. Lærke Rønn Sørensen struggled to find her rhythm with the car and track but still managed to finish in eighth place. However, Sunday promised to be even more exciting. The second heat began with Sebastian Bach in second place, Gustaw Wisniewski behind him, and Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen in eighth place. All three made a good start and quickly formed the front, with Bach leading the charge. After a few laps, Mathias Bjerre was able to overtake and take the lead once again, and when they crossed the finish line for the last time, it was with three green cars in front.
Such good results translate into favorable starting positions for the final heat. Here, the story repeated itself, although one competitor had snuck in among the STEP cars and fought for first place for a few laps. However, halfway through the race, it was once again three STEP cars at the top of the field, maintaining their positions until the checkered flag—a result that will be hard to forget. For Lærke Rønn Sørensen, the hard work continued in the midfield as she fought to find the last bit of speed in her car, but with three eighth-place finishes, she did not achieve what she had hoped for. -It has been a wild weekend. The boys have had a really good weekend, and even though they really pushed each other hard in the second race, they did it with respect and brought home a lot of points. I am truly happy for everyone because it’s clear to see the development since the season started, said team manager Morten Dons after the weekend’s challenges.
-Lærke didn’t really find the rhythm with the car and track this weekend, but I’m confident that she will come back strong in the last two weekends on more familiar tracks. No one here doubts her potential, so she just needs to keep pushing, he continued. With leads in both the driver’s championship, rookie championship, and team championship, it’s no problem for the team manager to go on summer vacation: -It certainly gives some peace of mind, but on the other hand, we are the ones everyone is chasing from now on. There’s a certain pressure to ensure that the technology and collaboration continue to function optimally, so even though we can all take a break with a smile, there won’t be any slackening in preparations for the next race. Quite the opposite, I assure you, said Morten Dons. The next race in Nordic 4 will take place at Night Race at Padborg Park on September 13-14.
