STEP Motorsport’s four drivers earn both experience and trophies at the fourth round of Nordic 4 at Ring Djursland.
After a strong weekend at Gelleråsen Arena in Sweden, expectations for Ring Djursland were more subdued. With no training opportunities and a more unique track layout, the weekend was set to be a learning experience. For Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen, it was a weekend in stark contrast to the dominance in Sweden. Here, he had to fight tooth and nail to secure a stable points haul for the championship, and with three third-place finishes, that goal was certainly achieved.
Lærke Rønn Sørensen had another tough weekend, where despite having good speed in the car, she never quite managed to unlock its full potential. A collision in the weekend’s second heat didn’t make things easier for her, but she managed to finish in sixth place in the final heat, which serves as a good consolation. Both Sebastian Bach and the team’s newcomer, Gustaw Wisniewski, were hard at work this weekend. With no training on the track before the event, they had just 20 minutes to familiarize themselves with the circuit before qualifying. In the wet conditions, Sebastian Bach managed to set the fourth-fastest lap time — the best among STEP drivers — with Gustaw Wisniewski clocking in sixth. Bach’s weekend continued his form from Sweden, as he fought for positions just outside the top 3. With two sixth places and a fourth place, there’s no doubt that his performance was commendable.
Gustaw Wisniewski had good speed in the car, despite having only one practice day to get acquainted with it. However, a false start in the first heat proved costly, as did a collision in the next. The final heat, on the other hand, was a positive experience, as Gustaw finished in fifth place after making his way up from tenth. The team principal looks back on the weekend with satisfaction: -We didn’t have a strong focus on results this weekend because Ring Djursland is a track where you can’t just go fast right away. Both Mathias and Sebastian performed very well and can head home with more than we probably expected before the weekend, he says, and continues:
-Lærke had a tough weekend, but in the last heat, we suddenly saw her heading back toward where she belongs, and that makes me very happy. Gustaw also picked up good speed in the last heat and secured us a 1-2 among the rookie drivers, so I believe it can get really good once he fully settles into the car. In three weeks, the action resumes as STEP Motorsport and the Nordic 4 field head to Falkenberg in Sweden. It’s a track that is new for all drivers in the field, so it will be exciting to see who gets up to speed first.
