The talent team from Struer secured the driver’s championship, the rookie championship, and the team championship in Nordic 4 at FDM Jyllandsringen.
This was precisely what team manager Morten Dons had set as a goal from the start of the year. With a strong team, the right drivers, and the necessary preparation, a standout performance in the Danish championship for young motorsport talents seemed within reach.
And that’s how it went. The final race at FDM Jyllandsringen was a fitting end to a busy season, where none of the drivers were given any easy wins. And luckily, it stayed that way.
After a challenging qualifying session on Saturday, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen was lightning-fast in Sunday’s first race. He went from third on the grid to taking the lead in the first lap, and from there, he didn’t look back. With a nearly seven-second lead over second place, he took the victory and clinched the championship. Bjerre also showcased his excellent form in the final heat, taking another victory in the green race car.
Sebastian Bach had to wait until the final heat to call himself the Rookie Champion, but a steady performance throughout the weekend, including good duels on the track, secured him the title.
Gustaw Wisniewski experienced both highs and lows over the weekend. A well-earned heat win in the second race was refreshing, but in the final heat, the Polish driver ended up in the sand after a collision with just a few laps remaining.
Lærke Rønn Sørensen had a tough first heat, but in the afternoon’s two races, she once again demonstrated her speed and willingness to overtake. Although she had to settle for seventh place in the final heat, she proved that she could hold her own against the field’s top drivers.
For the weekend’s fifth driver, Sebastian Schou, the race at Jyllandsringen was a challenging experience. At the start of the first heat, the Silkeborg native saw his competitors race past as he struggled to get the car into gear, ultimately fighting his way back to 13th place. In the middle heat, his front wing bent after contact with a competitor. However, he managed to move up to eighth place in the final heat, proving that he has plenty of potential to offer.
With three championships secured, the mood was high at STEP Motorsport, especially with the team manager, whose grand plan succeeded in the end:
– This was what we set out to do. I’m not surprised it worked, but I’m incredibly happy and grateful that so many dedicated people believed in the mission and invested time and effort to make it happen. From the dedicated, hardworking mechanics who ensured that the cars ran fast and reliably to the absolute best catering team in the pits, which was ready with fantastic meals, snacks, and service for drivers, guests, and mechanics alike,” said Morten Dons, adding:
-The drivers are in a league of their own. STEP exists to develop talent, and we’ve seen so much growth in both talent and character this season. I’m proud of the progress each of them has made, and I’m glad they were part of our historic 2024 season.”
With such ambitious success, plans are already underway for an exciting 2025:
-It’s hard to do much better than we did this year, but we’ll return with the same energy and ambitions next year. Nordic 4 is the perfect championship for young talents, so we’re looking forward to introducing more new drivers to the class when next season kicks off,” promises Morten Dons.
With this season’s hat trick, STEP Motorsport has won at least one championship each season in Nordic 4 (formerly Formula 4) since their debut in 2022.
