The majority of STEP Sports Management’s athletes traveled to Struer on Saturday for the first inspiration and training gathering of the year.
The concept behind STEP Academy is based on the fact that life as a racing driver is much more than just driving fast on a racetrack. Therefore, the day began with topics such as presentation techniques, sponsorship searching, and the use of social media.
“As a racing driver, you’re lucky if you spend ten percent of your working time driving a race car—the rest is spent finding sponsors and managing your brand. That’s a harsh reality you must accept before you start working towards a career,” explains Morten Dons about the topics covered in this year’s first training session.
Media partner at STEP Sports Management, Kim Gripping, provided the athletes with inspiration and a series of concrete tools to enhance their efforts on social media. A strong presence on Facebook and Instagram is crucial when it comes to securing sponsors, and it’s never too early to get started.
One of the athletes present that day, TCR driver Martin Andersen, was pleased to receive a fresh dose of inspiration and insights for his career:
“It was a really well-planned day, and I came away with a lot of valuable takeaways. There’s a lot I can use throughout the entire season, especially regarding sponsor management. I’m already looking forward to the next gathering, where we’ll review our improvements in physical fitness, mental strength, and social media. It’s given me even more motivation to go all out!” says Martin Andersen.
The afternoon was spent on a series of physical challenges. Heart rates increased, and muscles and mental stamina were put to the test. While there is always room for fine-tuning and improvement, Morten Dons is pleased with the effort put forth throughout the day:
“We had a really good day with truly engaged racing drivers who actively participated and absorbed our experiences and input. When it came to the physical exercises, everyone really gave their all. Not a single person held back or settled for 90 percent; that’s exactly how it should be.”
The next training session for the STEP Academy team will be held before the summer holidays.
