STEP talents showed their potential at FDM Jyllandsringen

13. May 2024
All three drivers showed progress and competitive spirit in this year’s second race weekend of the Nordic 4 Championship. The positive momentum from the season opener continued in practice, and in qualifying, Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen was again the fastest driver in the field. Right behind him was Sebastian Bach, while Lærke Rønn Sørensen came close to completing a STEP Motorsport top 3 but had to settle for the fourth-fastest lap time. Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen got off to a great start in the first heat, building a lead of more than four seconds over his pursuers. He looked like a sure winner until a technical defect unfairly forced him out of the race. However, Sebastian Bach, who had dropped a position, managed to fight his way to first place and take his first heat victory in Nordic 4.
Sunday’s first race gave Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen the chance to fight his way up from the back of the grid to an impressive third place, where, with a few extra laps, he could very well have taken one of the top spots. Sebastian Bach did a great job, moving up from eighth to fifth place, while Lærke Rønn Sørensen was hit by a competitor and dropped to the back of the field with a damaged front wing. However, she managed to drive back strongly to eighth place with a less-than-optimal car. The third and final race started with Sebastian Bach in the lead. However, he did not make the best start and was overtaken by two experienced competitors, but he maintained third place all the way to the checkered flag. The weekend has been particularly good for the team’s Aalborg driver in the Rookie Championship.
Mathias Bjerre Jakobsen started the race from ninth place and quickly moved up to fourth place on the first lap, but despite his best efforts, he could not catch Sebastian Bach in third place. Lærke Rønn Sørensen was penalized with a drive-through penalty for a jump start and ended the race in the gravel at the far end of the track. An unfortunate ending after having been fast all weekend. -All three have clearly shown their potential, and it’s great to see how Sebastian had the stamina and speed to be up front. This is only his second race in the car, so it’s really impressive work, says Morten Dons, continuing: -For Mathias to retire from a comfortable first place again is terrible. He handled it well and delivered an impressive comeback in both of Sunday’s races, and I have no doubt he could have been in the absolute top. -Lærke started strong with good lap times, but the races were challenging this time—primarily due to circumstances beyond her control. She is incredibly fast and a quick learner, so I’m sure she will come back strong at Gelleråsen, says Morten Dons. The next round of the Nordic 4 Championship will take place at Gelleråsen Arena in Sweden in three weeks.
