Just two weeks after the season started, STEP Motorsport is back on the asphalt. This time, they are racing at Anderstorp in Sweden.
The former F1 track in Sweden presents an exciting challenge for both the team and the driver. It has not been possible to conduct a test day on the track before the race weekend, so neither setup nor track experience will be brought from Denmark:
-We need to make the most of the two practice sessions on Friday so that we can have a sharp setup ready for qualifying and the races on Saturday. Victor has never been here, but several of us on the team have been here before, so we’re not completely starting from scratch, says team principal Morten Dons, who himself raced on the track as a participant in the Swedish GT5 Challenge in 2013—a race he won, by the way.
The track is significantly different from the small Danish tracks usually used in the Formula 4 championship. The main straight is over a kilometer long, and cornering speeds are considerably higher, so the team’s northern Jutland driver will need some adjustment.
-It’s a different way of driving the car, but Victor will figure it out quickly. Often, it also provides important experiences that can make a difference when we return to the Danish tracks, so I hope both the mechanics and the driver return home with new insights after the weekend, Dons says.
At the same time, it seems that the weather gods are favoring the Swedish racetrack, and with temperatures around 20 degrees in the forecast, it could be a really nice race weekend over there.
